The Foundation operates as an independent cultural institution: it builds an archive from documented sources, supports research and projects in culture, and develops cooperation with institutions, researchers and artists in Latvia and internationally.

The Foundation exists to identify, preserve and document cultural and creative legacies that might otherwise fade or remain unsystematised.
The Foundation's mission is to connect preservation with accessibility — making documented legacies usable by researchers, the cultural sector and the wider public.
Cultural heritage is cared for as a body of sources: material is registered, described and preserved so that its provenance and condition remain traceable.
Research is source-based: statements are linked to specific documents, conflicting evidence is preserved rather than silently resolved, and uncertain material is marked as such.
Material is made publicly accessible to the extent that rights and the condition of sources allow; each record states its own publication and rights status.
The Foundation develops step by step: the archive, research and cooperation grow by adding new documented records, rather than by promising unrelated future activity.
