Ilze Arne
Professional biography
A documentary biography: each chapter references the canonical works, performances, recordings, people and institutions held in the archive, and every statement can be traced to its sources.
Chapter 1
Jēkabpils and childhood
Ilze Arne was born in 1953 in Jēkabpils. Her childhood and first musical education are connected with the town.
Jēkabpils is the setting of her childhood and earliest musical development. Study at Jēkabpils Music School is the first documented stage of her musical education, and the town is held in the archive as a record of its own, related to her biography, rather than a passing mention in text.
Her musical ability was recognised very early; the research material preserves references to absolute pitch.

Chapter 2
Emīls Dārziņš Music School
Ilze Arne continued her musical education at Emīls Dārziņš Music School in Riga.
Her early musical education was strongly centred on piano studies. The research material documents disciplined piano training and a musical environment as important parts of her formative years.
The school is held in the archive as an institution record, connected to the biography by a relationship rather than restated in prose.

Chapter 3
First compositions and Pauls Dambis
Ilze Arne began composing already as a child; the research material places her first compositions at approximately the age of ten.
Composition studies with the composer Pauls Dambis began approximately from the third school grade. The dating is kept in the archive as approximate; no exact year is documented, and none is reconstructed.
The autobiographical material also preserves the early creative thread “Daugavas viļņi”. It is not to be confused with the later work “Daugavas krastā”.

Chapter 4
Conservatory years and Valentīns Utkins
Ilze Arne completed her composition studies at the Latvian State Conservatory in 1977, in the class of Professor Valentīns Utkins.
The studies took place at the institution then named the Latvian State Conservatory. The archive keeps that historical name; the later name — Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music — belongs to later periods and is not applied retroactively.
The completion of professional composition training in 1977 is the final documented stage of education before independent professional activity.

Chapter 5
The girls' choir “Gundega”
A documented working period of approximately 1986 to 1999 connects Ilze Arne with the girls' choir “Gundega” of Riga 45th Secondary School.
The choir is a record of its own in the archive, related both to the school and to the composer. The period is kept as approximate: years are documented, not exact dates.
This period belongs to her professional work in choral music; individual performances and works are added only when sources support them.

Chapter 7
Pedagogy and professional influence
In 2001 Ilze Arne received a master's degree in pedagogy at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music; teaching is a distinct part of her professional legacy.
Teaching composition is documented at Jūrmala Music Secondary School and Riga 1st Music School; sources from 2025 name Ilze Arne as teaching staff of the Academy.
Among her students, the composer Jēkabs Jančevskis is documented. Pedagogical relationships are held in the archive as relations between person records, so influence can be traced in both directions.
